That’s soooo… 2010

Just one more month in 2010, that’s 28 days, can you believe it? Just 676 hours, 40607 minutes! Time has literally flown by and 2011 is just around the corner yet we waste endless hours on Facebook, Twitter, Formspring, BlackBerrys, etc. Any of you like that? I know I am guilty as charged… But that’s how most people spend their free time. However this “addiction” is recent, do any of you remember what you did in your free time at a young age? I think it's time to take a trip down memory lane… Who remembers at least one of these things?
· Tamagoshi
· Pokemon Cards
· Tetherball/Foursquare
· Light up tennis shoes!
· Webkinz/Build-a-Bear
· High School Musical
· Simon Says
· American Girls

Just to name a few! But I’m sure all of you remember at least one of those things. Well that fact is that trends have changed a lot throughout the years. You may not have realized but I’m 100% sure that all of you have at least one of these things somewhere in your house or used it:
· BlackBerry
· Facebook, Twitter, Formspring, etc.
· SillyBandz
· Black Ops
· IPod
· Laptop
· Reality TV shows
· RipStik

I think I caught all of you somewhere. Well yeah, that’s a big difference from what we used to do.
The end of a year is always a good time to look back at how your year was. Have fun this end of year! Wish you all the best!

Anything Close to a Sport... Is a Sport

While surfing the web one can find some pretty weird things. The other day I found a website that had many top ten lists, one of them being “Top 10 Weird Sports You Should Try”. Of course I had to see them and indeed they are weird. The first sport was Underwater Hockey. Wow. I mean since we’ve played it on the field and on ice why not underwater? This sport (yes, it's a sport) is also called Octopush, basically there are 2 teams of 6 and they try to push the puck with a stick into the goal. One of the reasons it's not very popular is because well, no one can watch it. Another completely bizarre sport is Chessboxing! Just like the name says, the players box for a round and play chess for the next one. Of course there is also Cheese Rolling where the participants have to chase a round cheese down a hill. Strangely enough there are many injuries and this year it was canceled for safety reasons. I thought the coolest one in the list was Bossaball, it's like volleyball but they play it with a trampoline on each side! I would definitely play this one. The point of the game is to somehow get the ball over the net, just like in volleyball but this time you’re jumping on a trampoline. If you want to see the other sports on the list look here;  http://totallytop10.com/sport/top-10-weird-sports-you-should-try .
And remember anything close to a sport… is a sport.

Here's What You Missed On... Glee!

To the Gleeks who watch it every week Hi! And to those who haven’t seen it, well I’m sure you’ve at least heard the name and possibly some songs. Honestly their songs are all over; not only can you find people who know all Glee songs by heart but most songs are making the Top 10 list on iTunes. What makes these songs so special? Well the Glee cast doesn’t really write songs they actually remake, remix or mash up songs that already exist. Some of these songs are classics by Journey and Madonna but most are by more modern artists like Bruno Mars and Rihanna. Glee’s Madonna themed album actually sold more than the original Madonna songs, this has also happened with other songs that Glee has remade! Not only are the songs good but the plot is very interesting. There are some very unexpected things happen which keeps the one time viewer intrigued as well as an ongoing plot that makes the followers keep on watching. The main idea of the show is probably to show teenagers that there is always a place that you can fit in. In conclusion I recommend this show to everyone (not just girl ok? Guys, you should also give this a try too!) See you all soon!

Need an excuse to celebrate?

So this week I’ve stumbled across some pretty weird holidays. I thought people were just joking around about things but turns out almost every day is a something day! And it's not just “Oh, let’s make today don’t tie your shoes day”. Nope there’s a system, sort of. At least I know that there are monthly, weekly and daily celebrations. As I was looking this stuff up I found out that this month is International Drum Month and Peanut Butter Lovers month (congratulations to all of you!), this week is Game and Puzzles week, and today turned out to be Button Day and Have a Party With your Bear Day! As you can see there are some pretty weird holidays people look forward to. Here are some things you can mark on your calendar:
December is Bingo Month
3rd National Roof Over your Head Day
5th Bath Tub Party Day
13th National Ice Cream Day!
16th National Chocolate Covered Anything Day
27th National Fruitcake Day
31st Make Up Your Mind Day

For more weird holidays check out this site http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/. Do any of your birthdays have an interesting holiday? Tell me if you find anything interesting I’m interested in knowing! Happy “Have a Party With Your Bear Day”!

The Trip That Never Happened

So I should have been arriving in Aruba right now but I'm not, I'm at home. What happened? Visas happened. Before you stop reading let me explain, so during fall break a Peruvian couple came to visit and stay with us. They're like my parents long lost friends or something. So the plan was that they would get to tour around here and then today (Thursday) we would go to Aruba. It was all going great, we packed and left home; there was a little traffic on the way to the airport because of the rain so we called a lady to start the check in. She asked for our passport numbers, names, birthday and everything else needed. But then she asked what the visa number for our guests was. Everyone sort of panicked at the same time but we still went to the airport to try. No luck. Turns out a new law was set on October 10th saying that Peruvians needed a visa to go to Aruba from that time on. Bummer. So yeah I'm not going to Aruba anymore. Were trying to see if we can go to a beach tomorrow but I don't know how that's coming along. I hope that works but if it doesn't... Well at least I didn't have to go to school this week :)

L.A. Candy

So I read a novel, which turned out to be a series, called L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad. Some of you might recognize that name that’s because she is pretty famous or at least well known. She became famous from a TV show, The Hills. Well anyways she is mainly an actress however she wrote a trilogy and she designs clothes, I guess that keeps her pretty busy. But back to the book, it’s about two BFFs who move to L.A. but not to become famous, Jane (sweet, blond one) goes to inter with a party planer Fiona Chen, her friend is Scarlet (brunette, apparently drop dead gorgeous but has a sour mood) she’s in L.A. simply to go to school. In their first few weeks in Los Angeles they are discovered by a TV producer who wants to make a reality based on their lives which start out average but later on turn into something film worthy. I think this book is good; considering it was written by an actress with no past experience it’s very well written. However it’s very simple, the vocabulary used is easy, the characters are plain and don’t change much. Basically I don’t think this book would be known if it weren’t because the author was already famous. Nevertheless the idea is interesting since the reader gets to know how realities work behind the scenes. I would recommend it to anyone who likes watching reality shows since this book is similar to watching one. If anyone wants to give this book a try just contact me!

So I was Looking Around...

Today I was in the salon getting a haircut and as I washed my hair, I looked around. All I saw was women replacing their natural beauty with something artificial. It was stunning to see women with beautiful curly hair spend hours there just to get it pulled and straightened in order to look like the women on magazines. Seeing that made me wonder; what happened to wanting to be unique? I mean if there were only one color in the world things would be pretty boring right? So why is everyone trying to look the same? Recently some big companies such as Dove have been trying to promote this same idea by not editing the pictures they use in their advertisements and using average looking people for their TV commercials. I strongly agree with what they are doing, I think women should be proud of how they look and go to the beauty salon to improve their looks not to completely change it. The marketing technique Dove uses should be used more often because it not only promotes looking natural but it also makes the customers more comfortable with how they look. There should be no reason for women to think they have to spend hours in the beauty salon to look good.

Wonderland?

Why would Disney ever think of making another Alice in Wonderland? I mean every little kid had seen the original one, so what’s the point of making a new one? Well turns out it's not the same… at all. In fact I doubt any kid would understand it and it's not a very happy fairytale anymore. First of all the movie is made with real people not animated characters, second the wonderland we saw as kids is gone, destroyed by some evil queen. And remember the mad hatter? How he was slightly crazy? Well now he’s completely lost it! And it's a little confusing. Oh and the reason Alice is back isn’t to drink tea with the hatter or to play with the smiling cat, nope, she back to kill a monster! So yeah this is a very different movie from the one that was made 60 years ago (I had no idea it was THAT old!). This new movie has a grim feeling to it, and I didn’t like it very much. Maybe it's because I was expecting a cute and happy movie or maybe I’m attached to the old one. Anyhow I would still recommend people to go and try it out, but if you don’t like it don’t blame me! And now as the mad hatter would say “When that day comes I shall futterwacken... vigorously.”

GG!

“Gossip Girl here, your one and only source of the scandalous life of Manhattans elite.” Yeah that’s right it's finally back! After what seemed like an eternal break between the seasons, well it was just four months but it seemed like way more. So for the people out there that for some reason doesn’t know what GG (Gossip Girl) is about I’ll tell you the basics. It's a TV series where these super rich girls (and others not that rich) fight, party, and shop; oh and of course date a bunch of really cute guys. Every so often they go to school but just for the gossip and drama. Who would know that being in an elite group could lead to so much backstabbing and lies! Ok so maybe that sounds boring to some of you and you’re wondering why is she wasting her time watching this?! Well first of all there are about 2 MILLION girls, (and maybe some guys… you never know…) in the world that watch GG so it can’t be that boring and the reason we watch it is simple we love drama! And it's so much better when it's not happening to anyone close to us that way we can actually enjoy it without feeling guilty. So yeah the reason I wrote about this is because season four started last week and today I get to watch the second episode, yay! I’ll write again soon! “XOXO Gossip Girl” J

Hey Bloggers!!

As one of my first English assignments of the year I have been asked to start a blog. And yeah it sounds like fun, until you start seeing the words drafts, rubrics and all that grading material. But somehow I’m actually looking forward to seeing how this is will turn out. In the end it sounds like it’s going to be a pretty cool project. Today I’m going to introduce myself. That’s supposed to be the easiest part but what can I say that will make “blog surfers” really want to read this? Well I’ll try my best…
I’m a student at an American school in Venezuela. It’s my 11th year here and even though there are ups and downs I really like living here. Yes, I know that’s weird since most people complain about things but, I think anywhere you go there are things to complain about so why point them out? That’s not going to change anything. That’s my view of complaints anyways. In my free time I like to watch TV series, most of them would probably be listed under the drama genre, they were all suggested by a really cool friend of mine. If I’m not watching a bunch of crazy series then I would probably be on Facebook talking to someone or just looking around. Another thing I like to do is listen to music. I don’t have a favorite genre here; the only one I probably don’t listen to very often is rock. I’m an extremely shy person and it takes a really long time for me to open up. But when I do I completely trust that person. Something that really annoys me is when people aren’t considerate. I don’t like it when people say or do things without thinking about how it may affect others. Not only with people but also with the planet, there’s no reason to have the lights turned on when there’s no one in the room even if you’ll “be right back.”
Since its part of the assignment I’ll probably be updating this like twice a week, but I’m not sure yet. Most of the time I think I’ll be talking about what went on in one of the TV series I watched or maybe I might write about what I did during the day which is sometimes a little overwhelming. That’s just due to the fact that I’m currently in the JV girls’ volleyball team, I’m waiting to re-join ballet and I also have to go to this thing called school. I will also probably end up talking about any trips I make or any events I attend to (if I attend anything). I’ll try my best not to make this a boring blog but I can’t promise much. Oh and I hope to improve my writing, grammar and I’ll try to be as creative as possible even though I lack a little in that area. So how’s that for a self-introduction?
