Survival

http://goo.gl/F1Z15

In my English class we are reading Lord of the Flies (aka LOTF). In my opinion it's a very interesting book, we haven’t yet finished the book yet but I have great expectations for how this will end. I really hope the boys get rescued but it seems like the chances of that happening are very slim since Jack isn’t listening to Ralph. Well I’m not writing a summary about it here because we’ve talked about it enough in class. As I read the book I noticed that Ralph seems to be doing everything possible to get rescued or at least give the world a signal that they are there. I decided to look around the web to see it there is anything else they should be doing; I found 5 things that should be done in order to get rescued from a deserted island. The first one is finding water; humans can only live three to five days without the intake of fresh water. The second tip is to build a signal fire because without it no one will find you. The third step is building a shelter to protect you from rain, sun, wind, and simply to feel safe when you go to sleep. Fourth is finding food, although you can last a little longer without food it's important to eat and gain more energy. The last point is waiting. Rescue can take a long time so patience is probably the most important. If I were stuck in an island I would definitely rather be with Ralph because he seems to know how to get someone out of an island.

What Are You Now?

A few days ago I was sent a link to something quite interesting and I thought I should write about it. Apparently there is a new zodiac sign! This happens because of the Earth’s rotation and the alignment of the stars. So now a 13th sign has been added. This new sign is called Ophiuchus and if you were born between Nov. 29th and Dec 17th then that should be your sign. The addition of this new astrological sign messed with the dates of all the other signs too so people that were Capricorn are all of a sudden Sagittarius. These are the new dates:
http://goo.gl/6uEzt
Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18 - May 13
Taurus: May 13 - June 21
Gemini: June 21 - July 20
Cancer: July 20 - Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10 - Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16 - Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30 - Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23 - Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29 - Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 - Jan. 2

Personally liked mine, I was Aquarius and my new one, Capricorn, isn’t me at all. So I plan on keeping my old zodiac sign as do many people I’ve talked to. If you also like the sign you have well, I’ve read in some places that these new horoscopes should only be applied to the people born after 2009. So unless there is a two year old reading this blog don’t worry about your star sign changing.

Happy New Year!

http://goo.gl/Vb1FL

What was I doing up at 3 am the first day of the year? Well the story goes a few hours but many years of traditions back. Sixteen hours ago (aka at 11 am) my day had started. It was the last day of the year so there are some traditions to follow. One of the most important being what you eat, there’s no eating anything that moves backwards or to the sides. Therefore there’s no crab or chicken (supposedly they move backwards when they peck for food). Although you may think it's pure superstition it's part of the Brazilian culture. Later on in the evening I went to the beach with my family for yet another tradition, jumping the seven waves; with each wave all your negative energy goes into the sea and you make seven new wishes for the New Year. Once that is done most people take a nap to prepare for the long night, but I decided to stay up and meet up with some friends. By the time the moon was out everyone in my house was dressed in white and after a dinner, following the same rules as lunch, we left to watch the fireworks at the beach. There’s a big count down and everything before midnight. The fireworks were amazing and lasted about 20 minutes. After that we went to a show and that’s where I spent my first hours of 2011. As you can see I had an active New Years and now I’m back in school ready to start again.
Happy New Years! :)
