Happy New Year!

http://goo.gl/Vb1FL

What was I doing up at 3 am the first day of the year? Well the story goes a few hours but many years of traditions back. Sixteen hours ago (aka at 11 am) my day had started. It was the last day of the year so there are some traditions to follow. One of the most important being what you eat, there’s no eating anything that moves backwards or to the sides. Therefore there’s no crab or chicken (supposedly they move backwards when they peck for food). Although you may think it's pure superstition it's part of the Brazilian culture. Later on in the evening I went to the beach with my family for yet another tradition, jumping the seven waves; with each wave all your negative energy goes into the sea and you make seven new wishes for the New Year. Once that is done most people take a nap to prepare for the long night, but I decided to stay up and meet up with some friends. By the time the moon was out everyone in my house was dressed in white and after a dinner, following the same rules as lunch, we left to watch the fireworks at the beach. There’s a big count down and everything before midnight. The fireworks were amazing and lasted about 20 minutes. After that we went to a show and that’s where I spent my first hours of 2011. As you can see I had an active New Years and now I’m back in school ready to start again.
Happy New Years! :)
